GE Oil & Gas recently unveiled a new software tool that promises extended capability for pipeline operators’ data management programs. The PII Pipeline Solutions division of GE Oil & Gas, in conjunction with Colonial Pipeline Company, has launched its new PipeView BandGen software tool, giving operators expanded tools for generating alignment sheets directly from their own databases.
Alignment sheets, in essence reports of events along a pipeline, typically include aerial photograph backgrounds, pipeline facilities, geographic events, right of way information, elevations profiles, and pipe segment information. The sheets were originally hand-drawn, later converted to CAD, and are now generally in the form of geographical information system (GIS) reports.
The company states that BandGen is a powerful software extension of Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI) popular ARCGIS 9.3 system that, in addition to giving pipeline operators practical tools for generating alignment sheets, also gives them greater flexibility in managing bands and validating sheet content.
Alignment sheet appearance is easily configured with out-of-the-box tools directly from ARCGIS. Other features of the module include the ability to:
PII Pipeline Solution was assisted in the design and development of the BandGen tool by the Colonial Pipeline Company, helping to ensure that the product would meet the needs of the pipeline industry.
