Sonsub, a division of Saipem UK, recently announced that its dive support vessel Bar Protector reached a milestone achievement of 1,000 days without a lost time incident. The company states that this is particularly significant accomplishment given the large tides in which the vessel carried out a variety of projects over the past year.

The Bar Protector is a versatile, multipurpose vessel that contains a DNV AUTR DP Class 2 dynamic positioning system that enables it to perform diving, construction, ploughing, and intervention work in a variety of environments, including hostile weather conditions. The vessel contains a saturation dive system with a 6.3 m3 diving bell, and offshore activities are supported by a 100 Te crane and 800 m2 deck area.

The company states the vessel has worked on varied projects for a diverse list of clients in some of the most challenging environments around the world. Recent achievements include completion of spool tie-in work in some of the largest spring tides of the year in the UK sector of the Southern North Sea, and further tie-in work in Denmark.

Bar Protector Superintendent John Mackenzie said: “This vessel, with a crew made up of eighteen different nationalities, prides itself on encouraging every member to be constantly alert to safety issues… We all take pride in going the extra mile for a job well done.”
